The Charing Surgery

How Do I...
Obtain Telephone Advice?

We appreciate that surgeries sometimes become fully booked, making it difficult to discuss a problem with your doctor. We are also aware that advice is often all that is needed. To this end there are a number of bookable telephone consultation appointments available for each partner on most days.

How Do I...
See A Doctor?

Days Surgery Pharmacy & Dispensary
Monday, Thursday and Friday 8.00am - 1.00pm and 2.00 - 6.00pm 8.00am - 6.00pm
Tuesday and Wednesday 7.00am - 1.00pm and 2.00 - 6.00pm 8.00am - 12 noon

Appointments are generally available with the practice doctors between 8.00 - 11.30am and 2.00 - 5.30pm on a weekday except for Tuesday and Wednesday when appointments start at 7.00am.

Charing Surgery uses the Advanced Access appointment scheme, which ensures improved access for all patients by enabling appointments to be booked with a doctor within 24-48 hours. To this end we limit our pre-booking of routine appointments to three weeks ahead. To make an appointment please telephone 0844 477 3040 during opening hours. However, the busiest time is between 8.00-10.00am and therefore for non-urgent appointments we would request you ring later in the morning. Please note that between 1.00 and 2.00pm the phone lines are closed except for emergency calls. There are morning and afternoon surgeries each weekday and the advanced access system is carefully monitored to enable each day's demand to be covered by available appointments. This should mean that you are able to see the doctor of your choice on the day requested.

How Do I...
Obtain A Home Visit?

These can be made by doctors and district nurses when patients are unable to visit the surgery. It would help us if requests are made before 10.00am. The receptionist may ask for details of the problem so that the urgency of the call can be assessed. If possible please attend the surgery as at least four people can be seen in the time taken to do one home visit.

How Do I...
Obtain Results Of Investigations?

Test results and letters from local hospitals have to be checked by the doctor. Therefore please telephone for results in the afternoon. Some tests take longer than others. Your doctor should be able to give you an idea of how long you are likely to wait.

How Do I...
Register As A New Patient?

Inform one of our reception staff that you wish to register with the practice. Providing you live within our practice boundary (see practice area map), it is a simple task of completing an application form for each member of the family and a short medical history questionnaire. You will be offered an appointment with a practice nurse / health care assistant. for a new patient check and we strongly advise you to take this opportunity.

All patients are registered with the practice and not with an individual doctor. However, you can always make an appointment to see the doctor of your choice providing they are on duty.
